Willamette Week | Monday, October 8th, 2007 – Hammerfest Update: Nazi skinhead locations revealed
This Saturday afternoon in Portland’s southeast Lents Park, anti-racist activists held a rally in response to the gathering of white-power skinheads (and their hardcore bands) known as Hammerfest 2007. (See this week’s WW story.) After the rally, a diverse group of about 50 people, including a number of anti-racist skinheads, spontaneously arranged a caravan to a nearby neighborhood to leaflet. The fliers warned residents that one of their neighbors is neo-Nazi Randall Krager , who lives with his partner and fellow “racialist” Abbie Chelf on Southeast 70th Avenue near Johnson Creek Boulevard. The white power leader is one of the founding members of Volksfront, an Oregon-based white power group that helped sponsor Hammerfest 2007. Krager and three others founded Volksfront in 1994 while Krager was serving a sentence for nearly beating to death an African-American father of four and leaving him paralyzed.

The leader of the Sherwood Robin Hood Elks said Sunday that his group was duped into hosting a neo-Nazi group at its lodge on Saturday. „We just got completely hoodwinked on this one,“ said Tony Baker of Beaverton, exalted ruler of the lodge off Oregon 99W in Sherwood. „They just used us to put on their event.“ Lodge members were told they were renting to a group of rock musicians getting together for a reunion, not 100 or so suspected skinheads who are part of Hammerskin Nation, Baker said; CAUSA Joins Area Groups in Denouncing Local Hammerskin Nation Event. Starting today going through Sunday, The Hammerskin Nation, a neo-Nazi skinhead organization will be holding it’s 20th anniversary celebration in the greater Portland Area. The group is hoping to attract hundreds of hard-core racists to Oregon for it’s three day event it calls „Hammerfest 2007″. With local anti-immigrant websites, organizations and conservative talk radio hosts continuously fanning the anti-immigrant flames along with the recent racial charged beating of two Latino immigrants in the Clackamas County, Portland appears to be a perfect location for racist groups like the Hammerskins to hold their event. According to the Anti-defamation League (ADL), The Hammerskin Nation is the most violent and best-organized neo-Nazi skinhead group in the United States. A number of its members have been convicted of harassing, beating or murdering minorities. Many popular racist rock bands are affiliated with the Hammerskin Nation, and the group regularly sponsors concerts. Though internal dissension and a civil lawsuit currently threaten its continued strength, the Hammerskin Nation remains active and dangerous.
