Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány has announced on Friday he will take part in an anti-fascist demonstration on Friday organised to face a “flash mob” of extremist groups. The flash mob will have a number of ultra-nationalist, extreme right-wing groups and organisations in its ranks, such as Jobbik Magyarországért Mozgalom /Movement for a Better Hungary/, Magyar Gárda / Hungarian Guard, Nemzeti Gárda / National Guard, Hatvannégy Vármegye Ifjúsági Mozgalom, Hunnia Mozgalom, Magyar Önvédelmi Mozgalom / Hungarian Self-defence Movement, Lelkiismeret ‘88 / Conscience ‘88, as well as xenophobic and anti-Semitic website Kuruc.info. This is the second flash mob organised by extremist groups at the same spot. The first was on Monday, but the nationalists were outnumbered by about 10 to 1 (cc. 300 vs. 30) by a group of people opposing their cause. The event will take place in the 13th district of Budapest, in front of a ticket office, which was the “source” of the current events.

President Laszlo Solyom on Friday morning expressed support for an anti-fascist demonstration planned in Budapest later in the day. “Nothing can justify racist violence and incitement to hatred, both of which I deeply condemn,” Solyom said when visiting a shop selling concert and theatre tickets in downtown Budapest; Gyurcsány is ott lesz az antifasiszta tüntetésen.
