Proteste gegen neues Thor Steinar-Geschäft in Berlin

Roma minority attacked with Molotov cocktails

Roma inhabitants of the village of Krosnica, southern Poland, near the Slovak border, have called for monitoring on their estate, after an assault involving Molotov cocktails last Friday. The incident occurred at about 10 pm on Friday night, when two flaming bottles of petrol landed on property belonging to members of the Roma community. (…) Police believe that the crime was carried out by someone driving through the village. Roma inhabitants of Krosnica told the Gazeta Krakowska daily that they are regularly intimidated by drivers, whether it be with empty cans or stones. However, this is the first time that a home-made bomb has been used. (…) In January this year Roma from the western city of Poznan complained that they were being banned from bars and clubs simply because they were members of the Roma community.

Puerto Rico Police Investigate Another Possible Anti-Gay Hate Crime

Puerto Rican police continue to investigate the death of a gay man who was found dead in Corozal early on Wednesday, Oct. 26. According to el Nuevo Día José Juan Jiménez Santiago, 55, was found in front of a local business around 6:40 a.m. with head and shoulder wounds. The newspaper reported that investigators have yet to uncover a clear motive behind Jiménez murder, but his death has shaken the town. Jiménez life-long friend, Jorge Marrero García, told el Nuevo Día that he last saw him around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Jiménez asked Marrero for $5 to buy some hamburgers, but the newspaper reported that he did not tell him to where he was going. Investigators said that they know that Jiménez visited a late night restaurant and a cafeteria with four other people after Marrero last saw him. An investigator told Primera Hora that those who had gathered at the scene suspected that Jiménez was gay, but relatives did not provide any details of his possible sexual orientation to the police. UNHCR drives effort to reduce statelessness in south-east Europe

A top UNHCR official on Thursday urged countries in south-east Europe to accede to a key UN convention on statelessness and help improve the lives of thousands of ethnic Roma. We encourage the governments in the region to take that step now and ratify the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness,“ Assistant High Commissioner for Operations Janet Lim said before addressing a government officials and aid workers at a conference in Zagreb on civil documentation and birth registration. „Thousands of people are watching us today, hoping that your decisions will allow them to enjoy their most basic rights such as legal protection or the right to participate in the in the political processes,“ Lim told some 80 participants at the meeting. „They hope for easier access to health care and education, better employment opportunities, less travel restrictions, more social inclusion and reduced risk of vulnerability of trafficking, harassment and violence,“ she added. Lim noted that two countries in the region had acceded to the 1961 Convention, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, which became the 40th state party to the legislation at the annual UN General Assembly session in New York in September. UNHCR in August launched a major campaign to encourage more countries to accede to the Convention during its 50th anniversary.

School filtering gay, transgender sites goes to court

A federal judge heard arguments Thursday on whether a central Missouri school district should be barred from using Internet filtering software that has prevented automatic access to some websites with information on gay, lesbian and transgender issues. U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey made no immediate decision on whether to impose a preliminary injunction against the Camdenton School District at the request of attorneys for the American Civil Liberties Union. She also was considering the school district’s assertion that an unnamed student and several organizations that operate websites had no legal standing to bring the lawsuit because they had not suffered any harm from the district’s policy. The Camdenton school system is the first to be sued under a recent national campaign by the ACLU and Yale Law School intended to improve access at schools to websites related to gay and lesbian issues. Of more than 100 school districts contacted as part of the project, only the Camdenton, Mo., and Gwinnet County Public School District in Georgia have not yet responded by changing their Internet filtering software, said Joshua Block, an attorney for the ACLU’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender & AIDS Project.

TRENDING: Tea party group to Bachmann: Quit the presidential race

A tea party group has a surprising and harsh urging for long-time tea party favorite Michele Bachmann: Quit the presidential race. „It’s time for Michelle [sic] Bachmann to go,“ reads the first line of a statement from American Majority President Ned Ryun. His group operates in seven states, trains thousands of tea party supporters and is „liked“ by over 371,000 people on Facebook. „Bachmann, the leader of the so-called tea party caucus in the House and the most vocal about her affiliation with the Tea Party than any other Presidential candidate, has consistently presented herself as a champion of the movement and its values,“ Ryun’s statement continued. „Bachmann has ridden her tea party credentials from obscurity to a national platform like no other.“ (…) „Let’s face it: she’s a back-bencher and has been a back bencher congressperson for years,“ Robbins added. „This is not a serious presidential campaign.“ Bachmann won the first major contest of the presidential cycle, August’s Ames Straw Poll in Iowa. The Minnesota congresswoman has also won some good reviews for her performances in presidential debates. And, though her polling fortunes have recently tumbled, many campaign watchers believe Bachman’s candidacy cannot be dismissed. In explaining his claim that Bachmann isn’t running a serious campaign, Robbins dismissed Bachmann’s straw poll win. „They’re not accurate reads,“ Robbins said. „That’s not the structure, that’s not the money, that’s not the seriousness, that’s not the gravitas, you know, any of the real big league things that one needs in order to mount a truly credible, nationwide presidential campaign.“ The executive director also cited Bachmann’s recent staffing and fundraising misfortunes. The group explains another reason it believes Bachmann should quit the GOP presidential race.

Chile’s neo-nazis under spotlight on the Discovery Channel

Documentary highlights underground groups throughout Latin America. Cults, sects and clandestine groups will be the focus of a new documentary series by Discovery Channel Latinamérica that will premiere on Nov. 2. The series, called Mundos Extremos (Extreme Worlds), features eight episodes filmed in different countries around Latin America including Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil. Chile’s contribution to the series comes by way of a group of neo-nazis that consented to participate in the program to demonstrate their way of life, speak about their convictions and show their secret rituals. “In Santiago there are more than 200 neo-nazi groups,” a producer of the program told La Tercera. “Also, in contrast to the situation in other countries, like Argentina, in Chile it’s not prohibited to use the nazi symbol.” According to La Tercera, two documentary teams followed the Santiago-based neo-nazis on their “violent tours” of Chile’s capital for the series. The episode is scheduled to air on Dec. 7.

Serbian activists arrested for protecting evicted Roma family

Mevljude Kurteshi and her family have been forced to move to the Belvil settlement. Two human rights defenders were today arrested for trying to stop the forced eviction of a Roma family in Belgrade. The activists from the Regional Centre for Minorities were arrested for obstruction of justice after they peacefully attempted to prevent police evicting Mevljude Kurteshi and her six children from their apartment. „These activists were merely trying to defend the human rights of the family being forcibly evicted – an unlawful and inhumane act by the Serbian authorities,“ said Nicola Duckworth, Amnesty International’s Director for Europe and Central Asia. „Mevljude Kurteshi and her children must be given adequate alternative housing immediately.“ Witnesses say the two activists were arrested after politely refusing to move from the door of Mevljude Kurteshi’s basement apartment. They were released and may face charges of obstruction of justice, which could lead to a custodial sentence. Mevljude Kurteshi was given no reason for the eviction and the authorities have not provided her with anywhere else to live.

Czech town bans demonstration by ultra-right extremists

The Czech town of Havír(ov has banned the Workers’ Social Justice Party (De(lnická strana sociální spravedlnosti – DSSS) from holding a rally there this Friday in order to discuss the issue of the socially excluded moving into town. The town’s decision has been posted as an official notice. Despite the ban, the ultra-right extremists still intend to assemble in Havír(ov, the country’s newest town, and to take legal action against the decision. The Havír(ov town hall states the following in its decision: „The exercise of the right to assembly serves the citizens by providing them the opportunity to take advantage of their freedom of speech and their other constitutional rights and freedoms, but that exercise must not at the same time interfere with and limit the rights of others.“ The decision refers to a demonstration held by the DSSS there in September during which the party promoted intolerance against the Romani minority.

Czech Army battles extremists in its own ranks

Czech Defense Minister Alexandr Vondra will present a manual today that is intended to help military commanders and soldiers fight the infiltration of extremism into the Army. Czech Defense Ministry spokesperson Jan Pejšek told the Czech Press Agency the ministry spent two years preparing the publication, which describes how to identify both left-wing and right-wing extremist movements. The Army has had problems with extremism more than once in the past. Two Czech soldiers serving in Afghanistan wore Nazi division symbols on their helmets, while another Czech soldier was discovered with a tattoo honoring Nazi SS units. Czech neo-Nazis have been serving not only in the rank and file of the Army of the Czech Republic, but even in the elite 4th Rapid Response Brigade, from which the Czech contingent in Iraq was recruited for work as part of the MNF-I (Multi-national Force – Iraq) . The 4th Brigade also participates in missions with ISAF in Afghanistan, KFOR in Kosovo, and joint exercises and reviews with other NATO units. This information reveals neo-Nazi hypocrisy in all its glory: On the one hand these extremists have been profiling themselves, in a populist manner, as opposing the occupation of Iraq, while on the other hand their members are directly participating in the occupation. Vladimír Holub is a typical example. Anti-fascists first learned of the 24-year old neo-Nazi from North Bohemia in 2001, when their hackers managed to put a stop to the creation of a neo-Nazi organization for youth called Bohemia White Power. One of the members of this organization, which remained more or less virtual, was Holub, 18 years old at the time, who used then and still uses today the nickname Stuartswaffen (evidently after Ian Stuart, the founder of Blood and Honour, the largest neo-Nazi organization in the world, often termed by neo-Nazis „the second-greatest person after Adolf Hitler“). Vladimír Holub is part of the circle of North Bohemian neo-Nazis that includes the Radical Boys Brux, National Resistance North (Národní odpor Sever) from Teplice, National Resistance Karlovy Vary (Národního odpor Karlovy Vary), and the neo-Nazi band Hlas Krve („Voice of the Blood“)

CCC: Auch aktueller Staatstrojaner rechtswidrig

via derstandard.at: CCC: Auch aktueller Staatstrojaner rechtswidrig
