Man killed by Englewood Police was connected to racially-motivated killing of Oumar Dia
The man who reached for a weapon before Englewood police officers shot and killed him in a Walgreens parking lot on Thursday night was white supremacist Jeremiah Barnum, Englewood Police told 9Wants to Know Friday. Barnum was convicted of playing a role in the 1997 murder of West African immigrant Oumar Dia. Nathan Thill was the gunman who killed Dia and also wounded and paralyzed Jeannie Van Velkinburg. Thill is a self-described Neo-Nazi, according to 9NEWS’ partners at The Denver Post.

Barnum had been sentenced to 12 years in prison as part of an plea agreement to being an accessory to murder. It was not immediately clear how recently he was released from prison. Barnum was with self-described Neo-Nazi Nathan Thill when Thill opened fire on Dia, 38, at a downtown Denver bus stop. Thill also wounded and paralyzed Jeannie VanVelkinburgh, a Good Samaritan who came to Dia’s aid.
