Pro-Nazi vandalism hits two NJ towns

Pro-Nazi acts of vandalism struck two central New Jersey communities in recent days, and the Anti-Defamation League is calling them “attacks on the entire community.” The first occurred in the Orthodox community in Lakewood on Aug. 25, when spray-painted swastikas and the words “Hail Hitler” were discovered on playground equipment at Yeshiva Ketana. Four days later, swastikas were found spray-painted on benches and playground equipment at Echo Lake Park in Howell Township. “We are deeply concerned over anti-Semitic vandalism that has plagued communities in Lakewood and Howell Township,” said Joshua Cohen, ADL’s NJ regional director in a press release. “The appearance of swastikas and anti-Semitic messages on public property are searing and serve as another sobering reminder that New Jersey is not immune to anti-Jewish sentiment.” Later he told NJ Jewish News, “Any time there are swastikas or anti-Semitic remarks on public or private property, it is serious.”
